80 degrees. No humidity.

The worst thing about going on vacation is coming back. Especially when you go to California. I spent a week in Carlsbad, CA enjoying the dry heat and evening cool over 4th of July weekend and it was everything I had hoped it would be. Coming back to work was everything I dreaded, and more, of course.

Heading out west reminds me of driving over the Golden Gate Bridge for the first time on my way to San Francisco and eventually the 2004 Bridge School Benefit (Paul McCartney, Sonic Youth, Ben Harper, Eddie Vedder, etc.). Who knew that the Red Sox would have a 2 game lead in the World Series by the time I caught my flight back to DC. It also reminds me of flying into Ontario, CA this past April to attend my first Coachella. Coming over the San Bernardino Mountains listening to Wolfmother was the perfect beginning to a wonderful weekend in the desert. I love it out there.

These are some California songs from the collection. I can't find Joni Mitchell's BLUE ("California"), the GOOD MORNING VIETNAM SOUNDTRACK (The Riveras "California Sun") or The Mamas and the Papas ("California Dreamin'"), but I am sure these will do.

MP3: Never The Bride - "Going To California" (Led Zeppelin cover)
MP3: Robert Bradley - "California"
MP3: Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - "California"
MP3: Semisonic - "California"
MP3: The Eagles - "Hotel California" (live)
MP3: Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Californication"
MP3: 2Pac ft. Dr. Dre - "California Love"
MP3: Led Zeppelin - "Going to California"

California is possibly the least shite song Semisonic ever did. I love the fuzz that kicks in for the second chorus, but when I listen to it, I can't help but wonder what it could have been if, say, Kevin Shields had been producing
