We can't save the stores but Save the Album?

I have to admit, I got a little nostalgic walking past Tower Records this weekend and seeing large "Going Out of Business" and "Clearance" posters. As many of us have known for awhile now, the internet has long threatened the survival of many record stores. Now our friends at Insound apparently understand this and are doing their best to keep up. Always looking out for our favorite indie bands, they've just released a "Save the Album" campaign with the announcement that this week they'll be launching an MP3-only digital store. Colin Meloy, Bloc Party, the Walkmen, Devendra Banhart, and others have joined the cause with videos of their favorite albums. The key takeaway here is that Insound will offer full album-only downloads, claiming that individual tracks while benefitting the pop community have no place in indie rockdom. While I may not be ready to give up cds just yet, it's good to know that Insound is doing their best to stick around for awhile and oh yeah, help the indie rock community too.
