I'm not really up to date on the various streaming create-your-own playlist web sites so I won't claim to be any sort of expert on the subject. I did come across a site yesterday that I think is worth sharing. The site is called finetune, currently in beta, and they appear to have a pretty solid system in place. The site works by selecting 45 songs to add to a playlist that you can then share with others. You can add and delete songs as you please, create additional playlists or just have the site choose songs for you based on your musical tastes (this is where the term beta really applies). Once your songs have been selected, the site plays them at random. The musical selection is pretty good with plenty of new selections (new Beck and Decemberists are already up, for example) and a decent selection of indie albums. The catch is that you can't select more than 3 songs from an artist. Added bonus, there also isn't any advertising on the site. Could be a nice alternative at work if you need a break from the songs in your iTunes.
