The Drones

Judah Johnson's show at Iota on October 29th just got booted to the curb. Nothing against Judah, it's just that The Drones are playing backstage at Black Cat that same night. The Drones fucking rock.

I was bouncing around the blogosphere, making a friendly stop at the always timely Monte's Gauntlet. They have some good stuff up right now, including a very well written reaction to Pitchfork's treatment of Jet's new album, Shine On. Within that reaction they throw a bone out about a band called The Drones. Maybe I have come across these guys (and gal) before, but I am not sure. I think for a long time I was confusing them with Thrones, the one man bass attack that I caught open for Boris. Why I would make this mistake is beyond my comprehension. The important thing is that I arrived at where I was trying to go. The rock.

I am rarely at a loss for words, but I just ran through just about every mp3 on their Official Site, including an awesome rendition of Lord Jimi's "Manic Depression," and I am in awe. I am even more in awe of the fact that they are playing Black Cat's backstage. Sick. Note to self: remember the earplugs. Thanks to the Gauntlet for both keeping reviews and reviewers in check and knowing what is good in life.
