DAM! Festival: Schedule, Thoughts

When I first discussed DAM! Festival there was little info other than who was playing. No info on specific places and times for those bands, but now we are there. Below is the schedule for DAM! Festival. From the site:

"As a service to both the great city of Washington, DC and serious music fans throughout the country, our vision is to reignite the DC music scene and promote greater visibility on the national radar. On October 26-28, 2006, The first annual DAM! Festival will host a city-wide weekend extravaganza, when prominent indie rock and hip-hop acts will be crashing DC in the spirit of our city’s historical (and now reawakened) celebration of musical diversity and community. Pre- and post-party shows will also take place on October 20th and November 2nd.

"In the vein of San Francisco’s Noise Pop Festival and the Pop Montreal Festival, DAM! Fest will showcase members of the local music community alongside national acts, including bands you might not know, but should. We will bring them all together at four venues throughout the District." [Official Site]
This should be great for the city, the bands, and the venues. The only thing that sucks is who is playing opposite the majority of these shows elsewhere in the city. Or maybe that is a good thing...regardless, Dirty on Purpose is opposite TV On The Radio (Sonar) on the 20th, Cold War Kids and Bleeder Resistor are opposite The National (Black Cat) on the 26th, Travis Morrison (DC native and proprietor of a 0.0 from Pitchfork) is opposite Spank Rock (Black Cat) on the 27th, and then Bound Stems are opposite The Wrens (Black Cat) on the 28th. The good news is that Cloud Cult is opposite no one on the Day of the Dead (November 2nd).
