Disappearing Act

Just a quick note to say that we haven't gone anywhere. Work has been pretty hectic so the posting has been sporadic. Here are a few things on my radar at the moment:

*Was introduced to yet another solid Austin-based band from The Crutch. The band is called What Made Milwaukee Famous and while they've been together since '04, they just recently signed to Barsuk and will release their label debut, Trying to Never Catch Up on August 22nd. They're definitely worth a listen. Download "Hellodrama" from The Crutch, "Sweet Lady" below, and listen to two others on their MySpace page.

*A couple other bands that I've been meaning to check out: The Interiors - A band from Chicago who were kind enough to send us some mp3s, Clockwork Army, and The Compulsions. 8/16 UPDATE, I have a couple more bands to add to my list courtesy of my favorite Austin blog, ultra2801: The Politics and She, Sir.

*The new Decemberists album has leaked. I haven't listened to any of the new tracks yet but from the looks of it, it appears that Capitol is pretty quick to have them removed.

*As reported by Pitchfork, Capitol also just signed Interpol which has to place them as the indie darlings of major labels. Speaking of Pitchfork, they're making a big fuss about this list of 200 Greatest Songs of the 1960s. I could really care less and I'm guessing this only appeals to a very small percentage of their readership. I suppose they can't do any worse than the backlash from Spin's top 10 list of greatest live bands. My only response to this is that unless you've seen every band on this list, it's going to be a biased response. I think Pearl Jam and Muse should be on that list but then again, I've never seen the Stooges or the Dirtbombs...
