This, That & The Other Thing

Prefix's review of Pearl Jam's latest album is dead on. 4.5 out of 5.

Yawn. Pitchfork is smarter than us. And the new Pearl Jam album gets a 5.5. See review above for reality.

Pitchfork echoes my own sentiments for Wolf Parade's live performance. I caught them at Coachella this weekend (only for three songs). Pfork caught them at Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, NC.

Jack White tells NME that the Raconteurs (or Saboteurs depending on which continent you are on) is a long term project.

Filter-Mag has a good profile of Secret Machines. Rolling Stone has an Online Exclusive about the new album and the upcoming tour. They are on Craig Ferguson tonight.

The AT&T Blueroom will be re-broadcasting footage from this weekend's Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival. It is the first time in the 7 year history that they will do this. STay tuned.

NY Times weighs in on Coachella. FYI, four paragraphs down it says "this is not an audience that wears T-shirts of its favorite band or beer." For the record I had a Mars Volta T-Shirt under a Green logo Miller Lite T-Shirt the whole weekend. That's right. I never changed clothes. The hipster contingent was very funny in the tight jeans (it was 100 degrees), blazers, scarves and in some female cases knee high cowboy boots. That was some fashion over function if I ever saw it. But NYT is on point, with their statements about the crowd. The fashion was hilarious. Especially the guy that looks like he is in the band, but doesn't have a pink VIP bracelet and has to wait in line for the port-a-potties and pay $7 for Heinekens like the rest of us.

Photos from the bands/performers at Coachella on Rolling Stone.

The latest edition of Spin is worth picking up. Don't buy it, because you can read the whole thing in about 15 minutes. But, check out the articles on The Flaming Lips and Red Hot Chili Peppers. I got very excited when I saw this quote from Chad Smith (RHCP's drummer):

"The last few [Chili Peppers] albums had like, 15 songs, and there were maybe four songs with guitar solos. This time [John Frusciante] solos on pretty much every song. When we go on tour, it's gonna be the fuckin' John Frusciante Rock Show!"
